Spinal Therapy / Osteopathic Techniques
An emphasis on manual treatments including spinal adjustment and
other joint and soft tissue manipulation are required with any injury. During
Injury the nervous system will be somewhat affected and in order to work
more efficiently will need to be incorporated in the rehabilitation process.
This is also the case if an injury is left untreated for a period of time. Nerve
information that is transmitted from the brain to the rest of the body through the
spinal column is situated in and below eachof the 24 vertebrae joints of the spine,
sacrum and the coccyx.
When the spinal column is correctly aligned, nerve information is passed accurately.
If there is a disruptionand any part of the spine becomes misaligned, then nerve function
may become impaired.
These treatments can be performed by our Sports Therapist similer to those performed by
Chiropractors and Osteopaths.

The petition is for the Statutory regulation of the profession

Health and Care Professions Council.
In 2011 the Health Professions council made a formal
recommendation to the Secretary of State for
Health and to Scottish Ministers for the regulation of sports
therapists under Article 3 (17) (a) of the Health

sports therapy as 'Sports Therapy is an aspect of
healthcare that is specifically concerned with the prevention of
injury and the rehabilitation of the patient back
to optimum levels of functional, occupational and sports
specific fitness, regardless of age and ability'.
Statutory regulating it would protect patients and thousands
of therapists, and prevent discrimination from
employers who disregard the profession due to its non-regulated
